COMMUTER SERVICES:

Commuter Services Inc. was operated by Gray Line to provide St. Tammany and Washington Parish communities with peak hour, peak direction service to New Orleans. On weekdays, Greyhound did not stop southbound in Slidell during the morning commute because of this operation. Priority was given to pre-ticketed commuters, but anyone could ride for a cash fare.

GREYHOUND:

MCI 8734 signed for San Antonio serves the Slidell Greyhound station that was located at Front and Robert Sts. in the early 1980s.

MIAMI VALLEY RTA FLXIBLE 275:

Former Miami Valley Regional Transportation Authority (Dayton, Ohio) Flxible 275 sat on Third St. (Sgt. Alfred Drive) for a few months in 1982. According to the CPTDB Wiki, this bus was originally Cleveland Transit System no. 1205, model FD47-331-1, built in 1965 and sold to MVRTA in 1980. Information updated 07/06/17.

GMC OLD LOOK BUS:

This GMC old look bus numbered 601 was parked at a truck and bus dealer located at the I-10/Old Spanish Trail interchange. The license plate is from Alabama. Two photos added 11/09/10.

SCHOOL BUSES:

St. Tammany Parish Schools no. 99 parked near Front St. and US 190 on March 1, 2014. One photo added 03/24/14.

SLIDELL TRANSIT:

Privately owned Slidell Transit was a short-lived (August to October 1982) effort to provide local bus service. Routes Transit 1 through Transit 6 offered hourly headways from a transfer point at Front St. and West Hall Avenue using cutaway and van conversion buses.

Then-mayor Webb Hart (fifth from left) attended the grand opening ceremony of Slidell Transit held at the Towers Building on Old Spanish Trail on July 31, 2008. We also see C&M Enterprises (owners of Slidell Transit) president Beverly Plummer at center (seventh from either side). Behind the group is a Collins built Ford chassis bus (Transit 1). Transit 2 (a Collins) and Transit 3 (builder unknown) were also present; the buses gave those in attendance a trip around central Slidell after the dedication.
